Relentless Resolve

Blackmagic has released another free update to their premiere color correcting app - DaVinci Resolve. Davinci Resolve 8.2.2 comes in 2 flavors Lite (free) and the regular paid version of Resolve for either Windows or Mac computers. Updates within 8.2.2 include:

  • FCP X support for XMLs with multi-cam and compound clips
  • RedGamma3 and RedColor3 support for R3D files
  • RED HDRx Magic Motion support
  • Sony F65 Raw options for S-Log, P3, Rec.709, 2.4 and 2.6 gamma
  • CinemaDNG options for Rec.709, 2.4 and 2.6 gamma, color temperature and ISO
  • Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 support
  • Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 support
  • General performance and stability improvements

The pace at which Blackmagic is turning our products is unquestionably impressive. As mentioned previously, DaVinci Resolve 9.0 announced at NAB 2012 is still due out this summer as well. Blackmagic is really turning the heat up on the post-production world. Feature rich, well built products delivered on schedule at prices most anyone in the industry can afford seems like a tough recipe to compete with.
